“Frenetic, gripping, ridiculous and solemn at all the right places – the geek blockbuster of the year.”
— Michael Calia, The Wall Street Journal

Not sure why people still buy this, especially since the extended version will be out at the end of the year, packing much more punch than this lightweight. And I just need to add that New Line Cinema did a much better job in making sure the DVD books for LOTR’s extended look good alongside each other. So unlike Warner Bros. for the Hobbit.
I guess not everyone would want to watch extended editions. Those people who complain about long running times might be content to buy the theatrical editions rather than the latter 🙂
Can’t wait! Going to be my new nerd fix!
I’m glad they’re making the plain old DVD edition easier to find this time. it was sort of a struggle last time.
As far as wanting the DVD — I’d like to be able to watch it legally a LOT from the sofa in my living room using my good old DVD player and not have to pay $10 every time I do so. I will probably watch this 30x (estimate) before the EE comes out, so this will save me a lot of money and make me happy I am not breaking the law.
Like Servetus, I’ll merrily get my TBOTFA fix from the regular version while waiting eagerly for the extended. I have zero wish to wait until the end of the year to see this movie again — I have a great need to see it over and over that I didn’t have with the first two Hobbit movies.
