– Let the festivities commence!
Whether you’re a fanatic of the films, an unflinching Tolkien purist or simply a mixture of both, this should be the best week in an otherwise dull month … (end of summer, rain, strong winds – unless you’re living in the Southern Hemisphere, that is.)
With the advent of September 22nd (which marks the two birth dates of Bilbo and Frodo Baggins – hence, ‘Hobbit Day’) just a week away, celebrations around the world take place in numerous communities – ultimately, praising the works of J.R.R. Tolkien and their significance in our lives.
Your choices are limitless …
One can spend the entire week indulging in first and second breakfasts, walking barefoot outside (genius!) and anything which is essentially “hobbit-ish” (or even Middle-earth related).
Film fans will surely be waiting for a much-needed dose of updates in relation to the upcoming ‘The Desolation of Smaug’. Will it be in the form of another poster? A vlog? Or even a brand new trailer? Perhaps, all of them at once?
Who knows …
As long as you enjoy yourself with others (locally and worldwide) and appreciate the impact that Tolkien has left in your life, then you want be disappointed – be there updates or not.
I’ll certainly start celebrating by diving into ‘The Hobbit’ book again, followed by a non-stop marathon of ‘The Lord of the Rings’ Extended Edition viewings (beginning with ‘An Unexpected Journey’ first) …
Any ideas on how to fill-up the rest of the week are very much welcome.
This year’s Tolkien Week will take place between the 22nd – 28th September.
How will YOU be celebrating Tolkien Week and Hobbit Day? Let us know!
